Hi, I’m Leah.
I’m a writer, mother, student, artist, traumatic brain injury survivor, and professional overthinker with an almost compulsive need to understand why people do the shit they do.
I like talking about the things people tend to avoid talking about: trauma, brains, bodies, mental health, death, disability, relationships, sex, existentialism, and all the other weird and uncomfortable parts of being a human being.
My life has been fucking weird.
I’ve survived things I probably shouldn’t have survived, made an impressive number of questionable decisions, lost and rebuilt pieces of myself more than once, and somehow developed a sense of humor about most of it.
Somewhere along the way, I realized that nearly everything I’ve experienced—good, terrible, embarrassing, traumatic, hilarious, or completely fucking inexplicable—has taught me something about being human.
So I write about it.
Not because I have life figured out. I absolutely do not.
I write because talking openly about uncomfortable things makes them a little less uncomfortable. Because understanding why something happens can take away some of its power. And because sometimes realizing another human being has thought, felt, survived, or completely fucked up the same thing you have makes this whole existence feel a little less lonely.
That’s basically what Black Sheep Brainiac is.
Part memoir. Part psychology. Part philosophy. Part comedy. Part ongoing neurological experiment.
Mostly, it’s just me trying to make the uncomfortable comfortable.
Welcome to my brain. Please watch your step.
